Presbyopia
This is an inevitable fate that befalls us all as we age. This is the loss of ability to read as we age. Thus reading glasses are required. This condition is a natural ageing phenomenon and CANNOT be corrected with laser or other surgery.
Short sighted patients can to some extent "cheat" this phenomenon by
taking off their glasses. Their natural focused state is near thus allowing them to read without their glasses to some extent.
It is important to understand that presbyopia occurs to EVERYONE and is SUPERIMPOSED over and above any short sightedness, long sightedness or presbyopia
Although presbyopia cannot be corrected, there are 'workarounds' available' such as monovision or pseudoaccomodating lenses.
These however are not perfect solutions but are useful.
